Today was my very first time being seen as dental patient. At Water Street Mission Health / Dental Clinic. At least four years have gone by with me neglecting to go see a dentist. In the lobby I was nervous as the little kid I once used to be. Not knowing when an appointment was going to be scheduled. i was surprised when staff said I could be seen by the dentist staff in only a few minutes. My registration form took me a little longer than usual as I had these memories and story's friends and family told me about dental office experiences. The sweet music playing overhead helped to ease the tension I had about the needles a dentist used. I admitted to myself that I still had a fear and searched my brain to find out why I avoided dentists. I concluded it was because my experiences went back to the 1960's & 1970's. When prehistoric tools were used. And when a tooth split in half and I lost it. The dental assistant Joanne was at the top of her game when she met me. Giving me quite an education as she enthusiastically made sure I was comfortable and knew what was about to happen. A lot of pictures of my teeth were taken, and I got to see them on a screen and understand what some of my dental issues were. A part of me relapsed into how much is my co-payment going to be ? And how long before the bill comes in the mail. However, it was just my own mind playing tricks on me. How could I could forget that the service was free ! Soon I became relaxed and the butterfly's were gone and I began to talk a little. Even giving a thumbs up on the steps. When Dr. Brennan I believe her name is came in. She was even more cheerful and I knew I was really in good hands after all. And I was no longer afraid to hear what was wrong with chewing devices. Inside I knew it was primarily my own fault for not taking proper care of my teeth. Over the last 365 day's I have been told to get to a dentist by over 100 people in treatment facility's groups and myself in the mirror. I had good intentions. But balked literally at the same door twice this year already. Dr. Brennan's approach to health and recovery is unique. I've really never heard anyone else talk about their philosophy, love for God and humanity as it apply's in self sacrifice to enhance another human beings quality of life and well being. I thank you for you distinguished service to the community. Dental services at Water Street Mission are above and beyond the call of duty, and in my opinion. With the patient's you deal with. With attitudes and behaviors. You perform magnificently------under fire, and I salute you ! Khaldun Rasheed Blessed & Appreciative
